Bump It or Dump It, Vol 65.

Weak Bump – It’s listenable. Something you have to be in the mood to listen to. Not Bad. A Good Moderate Hit. Quality & above average; has more positives than negatives. Might need to grow on you/others, but could catch on. Not a clear smash hit, but something you'd genuinely want people to check out, so you’ll be supporting/playing it occasionally. Something you predict will be a Top-50 hit.

Weak Dump – Don’t really like it. Might like parts of it but not the whole composition. Could grow on you. Underwhelming. Sup-Par Record. Not bad, but definitely missing the mark somewhere. More negatives than positives. Listenable, as you might like some parts but not the whole composition. You don’t hate it and could understand it’s buzz, but you know you won’t be supporting/playing it much. Something you predict that won’t be on airwaves very long or have much replay value.

Strong Dump – Get rid of it. Absolutely don’t like it. Garbage. Hate It.
Complete Trash. A record you absolutely hate and has next to no positives at all. Garbage, and a waste of your time; that you’d want to warn people away from. Something that you’re sure you’ll never be supporting/playing ever; and predict that it’ll fail commercially.

Now for this week's singles.
Simple rules:
As we do every week, I'll give you the Top-9 new singles officially sent to Urban-format radio stations, that are either beginning to chart right now or expected to chart soon. In exchange, you can have & listen to them, and personally comment below, stating if you would *Bump It* or *Dump It* for each record and why... [Strong Bump, Weak Bump, Weak Dump, or Strong Dump]

"A LITTLE WORK" (Fergie),
Debuting #45 on Pop formats;
Shipped to Rhythmic/Club formats + Urban formats 12/01/17;
via Dutchess Music Inc/BMG.
[beginning w/ 878 + 129 Daily US Spins]. – The obligatory Semi Inspirational, motivational, don’t give up, look at me now, introspective track. It’s the middle of the concert pull your lighters out, put your phones in the air type track. I can see this being the last song of the night or a slowdown and appreciate life-song in the club. I can see this playing in the morning most prominently, but not it’s not very mixable with what’s on the radio now. It’s good for a mix show open format scenario because you could set it up r follow it with something like Kanye’s Can’t tell me Nothing. I can see it getting a little bit of crossover but for some reason, I can see a remix with a prominent hip-hop artist / r&b or two pushing it over the top and up the charts. It’s good on it’s on but it needs something else. – Weak Bump

"HIM & I" (G-Eazy f/ Halsey),
Debuting #47 on Pop formats;
Shipped to Rhythmic/Club formats + Urban formats 12/03/17;
via RCA.
[beginning w/ 843 + 255 + 95 Daily US Spins]. – That’s a good track. That’s good songwriting and storytelling. It’s so different from what’s currently on the radio that it’s actually out of its time. This is music just for listening and riding, it’s not for the club. It has a strong hook you can sing to so it makes it kind of radio-friendly. It’s certainly no mixable with all of the trap music currently on the radio. I feel like its going to have a hard time on crossing because it’s a whole song that has to be heard, so it won't even work for a mixshow DJ because it doesn’t have a sound bite that breaks down easily. An encouraging sign is that it’s getting spins on other formats, so maybe it’ll find a way. – Strong Bump

"HURTIN' ME" (Stefflon Don f/ French Montana),
Debuting #49 on Rhythmic/Club formats;
Shipped to Urban formats 12/03/17;
via QC Music/Polydor/Motown.
[beginning w/ 360 + 81 Daily US Spins]. – The best part of the song is French Montana's verse, his approach to the beat was interesting and unexpected. The rest of the song is not that interesting or captivating. I can’t really see it being played club and I can’t think of a time of the day where this fits well into the rotation. It’s not very mixable, it’s different but not in a good way, unfortunately – Weak Dump

"FAMOUS" (French Montana),
Shipped to Urban formats;
+ Rhythmic/Club formats 12/01/17;
via Coke Boys/Bad Boys/Epic.
[beginning w/ 242 + 156 Daily US Spins]. – Nah! It’s out of his lane. French Montana is cool singing a hook or harmonizing a verse or a part of a verse, but not good enough to sing a whole song. It was an abysmal listening experience. It’s ok to have multiple interests, but know your strengths and weaknesses, stay in your lane and don’t release everything you record. I wouldn’t be shocked if it makes radio anyway. Somewhere in the lower order in the 30’s or 40’s.   Strong Dump

"ECHAME LA CULPA" (Luis Fonsi f/ Demi Lovato),
Shipped to Pop formats;
+ Rhythmic/Club formats 12/03/17;
via Republic/Island/Universal Latin.
[beginning w/ 208 + 117 Daily US Spins]. – For a pop, or top 40 station/club it’s perfect. It’s catchy but it's too specialized to be universal. It’s good dance music, but not something you want to hear often or every day. It’s not singable, but it feels good. It’s 50/50 it could play on the radio just not a bunch of stations, I suspect it won't. – Weak bump

"PICK IT UP" (Famous Dex f/ A$ap Rocky),
Shipped to Urban formats;
+ Rhythmic/Club formats 12/01/17;
via TSO Music Group/300 Ent.
[beginning w/ 162 Daily US Spins]. – I have mixed feelings about this song. I love the production. Never thought I’d hear that version of “ Nothing Can Stop Me” used in quite that way. I actually want to hear a beat with just the sample, but I do like the contrast of the smooth soul and then the thump of the second part of the beat. I’m not a big of the lyrical display, but it was a fun listen, and the Dave Chapelle samples are well placed and made it entertaining. It reminded me of Digital underground’s style. This should definitely get radio play, a lot of it. It’s fun, the rhyme scheme and delivery fits today's mold. It stands out, and it can be played just about anytime. – Strong Bump

"GUMMO" (6ix9ine),
Shipped to Urban formats;
+ Rhythmic/Club formats 11/29/17;
via FCK Them/ScumGang/AshyGrip Ent.
[beginning w/ 101 + 79 Daily US Spins]. – I’m feeling the energy and rawness; reminds me of the way Onyx, M.O.P., and Dipset delivered. The lyrics are basic but the flow and the beat keep it interesting. This could be on the radio, it’s high energy, can mix well, and it’s the same type of subject matter as pretty much everything on the radio. I don’t expect it to be a top 10 hit, but maybe top 20-25 for a few weeks. If his personal controversy and checkered past don’t catch up to him. It could do well in the club, with its energy; especially since people don’t really dance they just bounce and this is the perfect bounce, jump around and head nod music. It has a little bit of something for everybody.- Weak Bump

"FAVORITE TIME OF YEAR" (Dru Hill),
Debuting #43 on Adult Contemp/R&B formats;
Shipped to Urban formats 12/02/17;
via Dru Hill LLC./eOne.
[beginning w/ 75 Daily US Spins]. – It’s a seasonal holiday record which puts a ticking clock on it. If it becomes a hit it’ll be in rotation every year. It’s a sounds like something that should be on a holiday movie score or soundtrack. I don’t see it getting a lot of play, possibly in the evenings, maybe a few early morning spins, maybe even some weekend spins. I don’t see it getting primetime spins. I don’t dislike it, its just doesn’t sound like a hit – Weak Bump

"EVERY KIND OF WAY" (H.E.R.),
Shipped to Adult Contemp/R&B formats 11/28/17;
via RCA.
[beginning w/ 29 Daily US Spins].  – I can dig this. Good traditional R&B sound, not trap-n-b, not part singing, part rapping; just the singing. It’s relevant sounding, it might possibly get to the top 20’s  or so. I really expect it to get some late night spins for sure. I think it can play any part of the day safely, however. – Strong Bump
