BUMP IT! or DUMP IT!, VOL. 66

Strong Bump – A hit. I really like it. Rewind worthy. Unquestionable Smash Hit. Extremely rewind-worthy and one of the better records out currently. Next to no flaws to pick out, something that you'll be supporting/playing daily. Something you predict will be a Top-15 Hit or higher.

Weak Bump – It’s listenable. Something you have to be in the mood to listen to. Not Bad. A Good Moderate Hit. Quality & above average; has more positives than negatives. Might need to grow on you/others, but could catch on. Not a clear smash hit, but something you'd genuinely want people to check out, so you’ll be supporting/playing it occasionally. Something you predict will be a Top-50 hit.

Weak Dump – Don’t really like it. Might like parts of it but not the whole composition. Could grow on you. Underwhelming. Sup-Par Record. Not bad, but definitely missing the mark somewhere. More negatives than positives. Listenable, as you might like some parts but not the whole composition. You don’t hate it and could understand it’s buzz, but you know you won’t be supporting/playing it much. Something you predict that won’t be on airwaves very long or have much replay value.

Strong Dump – Get rid of it. Absolutely don’t like it. Garbage. Hate It.
Complete Trash. A record you absolutely hate and has next to no positives at all. Garbage, and a waste of your time; that you’d want to warn people away from. Something that you’re sure you’ll never be supporting/playing ever; and predict that it’ll fail commercially.

Big Album Alert
Eminem released his first album in 4yrs. There was a pretty decent buzz and anticipation for the album despite the release of two lackluster singles “ Walk on Water” and “Untouchable”. The album is going to be something that people have mixed emotions and criticisms about. For me, it was an extremely average album, and not Eminem average, just average. If I could use a sports reference, it’s like watching one of your favorite athletes stick around way too long. There are flashes of brilliance but far and few in between and there’s no elite level skill displayed. He’s not even a savvy old veteran that uses tricks of the trade to still get the job done. It’s an album that can’t compete with any of the younger top-tier talents. Some things that are noticeably missing are a clear hit, and a radio single. You can tell Dr. Dre had nothing to do with this album, Royce da 5’9” had nothing to do with it, I’m wondering if he market tested this album before releasing it and if he reached out to any heavily respected hip producers. Also very much missing from the album is the wit, creativity, and comedy he displays when he goes into Slim Shady mode. I’m not sure if this is his last album or not but unless he has one last act in him, it should be because he doesn’t seem to be able to make an album many will enjoy anymore and he doesn’t seem to be having fun or have the hunger.

Now for this week's singles.
Simple rules:
As we do every week, I'll give you the Top-9 new singles officially sent to Urban-format radio stations, that are either beginning to chart right now or expected to chart soon. In exchange, you can have & listen to them, and personally comment below, stating if you would *Bump It* or *Dump It* for each record and why... [Strong Bump, Weak Bump, Weak Dump, or Strong Dump]

"PERFECT RMX" (Ed Sheeran f/ Beyonce),
Debuting #3 on Pop formats;
Shipped to Rhythmic/Club formats;
+ Urban formats 12/09/17;
via Asylum/Atlantic.
[beginning w/ 15,405 + 1,011 Daily US Spins]. – It’s a decent song. I don’t think it’s fit for urban radio, but with Beyonce on the track, it’s going to be forced to crossover. It’ll rise up the charts pretty fast and it’ll work way over to the adult contemporary charts where I think it fits better, even if they don’t ship to adult /contemporary format. This will get on the charts and stick around for a while, get used to it. – Weak Bump

"MIC DROP [AOKI MIX]" (BTS f/ Desiigner & Steve Aoki),
Debuting #31 on Pop formats;
Shipped to Rhythmic/Club formats;
+ Urban formats 12/03/17;
via Big Hit Ent.
[beginning w/ 1,663 + 136 + 43 Daily US Spins]. – It’s high energy and the production is pretty decent, but I can’t understand what they’re saying. It’s not clear if it's in English or just inaudible. It’s more for pop and rhythmic audiences than for urban formats. – Weak Dump

"HOME" (MGK f/ X-Ambassadors & Bebe Rexha),
Debuting #49 on Pop formats;
Shipped to Rhythmic/Club formats;
+ Urban formats 12/03/17;
via EST 19XX/Bad Boy/Interscope.
[beginning w/ 562 + 253 + 96 Daily US Spins]. – It’s pretty good, Has a full sound and good complete songwriting. It may get a few spins on urban stations but it has a sound that’ll be best supported by pop formats. If it charts on urban formats it’ll be at the bottom and may stick around for a few weeks. I wouldn’t be surprised if you heard this song on television or in movies. – Weak Bump

"FOCUS" (H.E.R.),
Shipped to Adult Contemp/R&B formats 12/12/17;
via RCA.
[beginning w/ 139 Daily US Spins]. – I like this a lot. I just don’t feel like urban radio formats will give it a fair chance. It’ll probably get some spins in the morning, late evenings and late nights, but not the necessary primetime spins to boost it up the charts – Weak Bump

"KAMASUTRA" (Juicy J f/ Cardi B),
Shipped to Urban formats;
+ Rhythmic/Club formats 12/11/17;
via Kemosabe/Taylor Gang/Columbia.
[beginning w/ 137 Daily US Spins]. – It’s ratchet music that perfectly suited for the strip club or a porno score. This is way too adult for radio unless they have the greatest edited version of all time. It might get some play in the club. Other than the lame, repetitive hook it’s pretty decent. – Weak Bump

"ONLY ONE" (5AM),
Shipped to Urban formats + Rhythmic/Club formats 12/10/17;
via 1865 Manag./Syco.
[beginning w/ 112 Daily US Spins]. – The lyrics and singing are not all that impressive, but the trippy spacey sound goes perfectly with what’s currently on the radio. It may get some spins and hang around the bottom half of the charts – Weak Dump

"DOLLARS" (CrankDat),
Shipped to Urban formats;
+ Rhythmic/Club formats 12/06/17;
via Asylum/Warner Music.
[beginning w/ 95 Daily US Spins]. – It’s perfect for rhythmic club formats, but not for much else. The production on it is good. I doubt it’ll cross over or gain enough traction to rise up the charts and stick around long unless they come out with a remix and add some vocals to it because it’s essentially just an instrumental. – Weak Bump

"CURVE" (Gucci Mane f/ The Weekend),
Shipped to Urban + Rhythmic/Club formats 12/01/17;
via GUWOP/1017/Atlantic.
[beginning w/ 67 Daily US Spins]. – The song doesn’t do anything for me at all. The Weeknd part sounds out of place. The rapping is not very impressive and the production is lackluster; it could all be better. I still wouldn’t be shocked if it ended up on the radio. – Weak Dump

"GIVING UP ON LOVE" (K. Michelle),
Shipped to Adult Contemp./R&B formats;
+ Urban formats 12/11/17;
via Atlantic.
[beginning w/ 63 Daily US Spins]. – It’s strong and passionate. The writing and song making is strong. The vocals are on point. I expect it to do well on Adult Contemporary formats, and it may get a few early morning, evening and late night spins on other urban formats. It’s a good song however and I like it. – Weak Bump

It‘s an iffy week for new singles, no strong standouts or clear.  We’ll just have to wait and see what happens with the majority of these, because they can go either way.
