Bump Or Dump 52

Strong Bump – A hit. I really like it. Rewind worthy

Weak Bump – It’s listenable. Something you have to be in the mood to listen to. Not Bad

Weak Dump – Don’t really like it. Might like parts of it but not the whole composition. Could grow on you. Underwhelming

Strong Dump – Get rid of it. Absolutely don’t like it. Garbage. Hate It

Simple rules:

As we do every week, I'll giving you the Top-9 new singles officially sent to Urban-format radio stations, that are either beginning to chart right now or expected to chart soon. In exchange, you can have & listen to them, and personally comment below, stating if you would *Bump It* or *Dump It* for each record and why... [Strong Bump, Weak Bump, Weak Dump, or Strong Dump]

"WHAT LOVERS DO" (Maroon 5 f/ SZA),
Debuting #26 on Pop formats;
via 222/Interscope [beginning 3,328 Daily US Spins]. – It’s a pretty decent match, one I wouldn’t expect, but it works fairly well. Honestly, I wouldn't think SZA would be on a group like Maroon 5’s radar, so shout out to them for that. It's Pop, but more like a b or c level pop song, it’s not something I’d expect to cross over to the masses, other formats or become inescapable. – Weak Dump

"QUESTIONS" (Chris Brown),
Currently #30 on Rhythmic/Club formats;
via RCA Records [1,049 Daily US Spins].  – I appreciate the love he gave for island music 9 soca and dancehall) and the attempt, but it's poorly executed. The production is too Americanized Pop or Dance, to the fact that it couldn’t even be mixed in well with a dancehall or soca set. If it would have been done better the timing would have been perfect as it's getting closer to Carnival season. For fans of the culture and DJs in the culture, the acapella's might get some use. But the entire song probably not. It's not even a good introduction for American pop dance audiences to soca /dancehall – Strong Dump

"FIGURES" (Jessie Reyez),
Debuting #49 on Rhythmic/Club formats;
+ Shipped to Urban formats 8/18/17;
via FMLY/Island [beginning w/ 435 Daily US Spins]. – I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it. I don’t know if it's a radio single or a club song. It may work on urban formats. It sounds too unplugged for radio, especially urban radio. I can see it popping up in movies and television scenes tho. – Weak Bump

"POST & DELETE" (Zoey Dollaz f/ Chris Brown),
Shipped to Urban formats 8/29/17;
via Epic Records [beginning w/ 257 Daily US Spins]. – Ok, it’s extremely mixable, it’ll work perfectly with all of the trap music sounding stuff, so I can see this having widespread use in clubs, mix show sets, and possibly getting prime time radio spins. It’s simple and catchy, and the beat grabs your attention. – Weak Bump

"LOVE A LOSER" (Cassie f/ G-Eazy),
Shipped to Urban formats;
+ Rhythmic/Club formats 8/11/17;
via Bad Boy Ent/Epic [118 Daily US Spins]. – It doesn’t sound like it should be on pop formats. I’m not sure what it is about it, but it doesn’t quite work for me, maybe it’s the subject matter or the delivery. It just doesn’t sound like it’s for the intended audience. – Weak Dump

"LIVE UP TO MY NAME" (Baka Not Nice),
Shipped to Urban formats 8/27/17;
via OVO/Warner Bros. [beginning w/ 101 Daily US Spins]. – It’s mixable. It’ll be hit or miss because it doesn’t stand out or have any originality to it. It’s a song with 50/50 potential, it could get radio play, could play prime time, could play in the club, it’s simple, predictive and easy to sing along too. But If you never heard the song you wouldn’t be missing out on anything – Strong Dump

"UNTOUCHABLE" (Youngboy Never Broke Again),
Shipped to Urban formats 8/29/17;
via N.B.A. LLC/Atlantic [beginning w/ 96 Daily US Spins]. – Points for not going the typical trap sounding route that so popular right now. But the song writing ability needs to be tightened up, as well as the flow and delivery. It’s lazily delivered and unfocused and doesn’t sound professional or up to par to be a radio single. It’ has a very underground/pirated radio sound. – Strong Dump

"PEOPLE SAY" (Wu-Tang Clan f/ Redman),
Shipped to Urban formats 9/2/17;
via 36 Chambers/eOne Music [beginning w/ 76 Daily US Spins]. – I like the production, it's nice to hear a completely produced beat, the bars and delivery are good but it doesn’t current or them at their best. It sound like it could be an unreleased song from years ago; it has a nostalgic feel. Not sure what the possibilities are for the song are based on what radio listeners are conditioned to like. This could pop up on some video games. I don’t expect club or much radio play. – Weak Bump

"HUNGRY" (Fergie f/ Rick Ross),
Shipped to Pop formats & Urban formats 8/26/17;
via Double Dutchess Music Prod./BMG. – An unlikely pairing. I can’t take Fergie serious as a rapper, this is way out of her lane, and it doesn’t seem authentic. The production is interesting and epic, but the bars don’t match that intensity, the bars are too spaced out and slow. A beat like that requires a delivery with a higher word count and stronger delivery. Expect for someone to drop a freestyle over it and kill it. It sounds too hard for pop radio and not interesting enough for urban radio. It sounds like an underground cut. But it would be perfect for a video game or movie, based on the production. – Weak Bump
