Bump It Or Dump it, volume 47

Strong Bump – A hit. I really like it. Rewind worthy

Weak Bump – It’s listenable. Something You have to be in the mood to listen to. Not Bad

Weak Dump – Don’t really like it. Might like parts of it but not the whole composition. Could grow on you. Underwhelming

Strong Dump – Get rid of it. Absolutely don’t like it. Garbage. Hate It

Simple rules:

As we do every week, I'll giving you the Top-9 new singles officially sent to Urban-format radio stations, that are either beginning to chart right now or expected to chart soon. In exchange, you can have & listen to them, and personally comment below, stating if you would *Bump It* or *Dump It* for each record and why... [Strong Bump, Weak Bump, Weak Dump, or Strong Dump]

"MI GENTE" (J Balvin f/ Willy William),
Currently #42 on Pop formats;
+ #43 on Rhythmic/Club formats;
via Scorpio/Universal [923 + 503 Daily US Spins] – This may take over pop and top 40 markets and clubs. It’s gone be hit or miss in urban markets. But I can see this tearing clubs up and people faking like they know how to dance to it. It’s not something I'd want to hear often but in the right environment and mood, I’d listen. Weak Bump

"YOUR SONG" (Rita Ora),
Currently #45 on Pop formats;
+ Shipped to Rhymthic/Club formats on 7/31/17;
via Atlantic [507 Daily US Spins]. -  Doesn’t do it for me. It sounds like album filler on a pop album they may want to rethink this as a single. It may work for pop crowds, you can sing along to it I suppose it doesn’t make me want to move, but I don’t really expect crossover.  Weak Dump

"SPACE" (TK Kravitz f/ Sexton),
Currently #45 on Urban formats;
via Reckless/300 Ent. [434 Daily US Spins] – The best part about it is the beat. The vocals are not horrible, just unappealing and uninteresting. I expect it to well in clubs and on the radio because it sounds like everything else on the radio, making it super mixable. A DJ can transition into and out of this with no problem. Weak Dump

"FOREVER YOUNG" (Lil Yacthy f/ Diplo),
Currently #48 on Rhythmic/Club formats;
+ Shipped to Urban formats 7/31/17;
via Quality Control/Capitol/Motown [350 Daily US Spins]. This is horrible. It sounds like a parody skit on a comedy show. Should be ashamed for wasting studio time. Probably should send this to Pop formats, I don’t see where this fits in on urban formats or clubs. Strong Dump

"INCREDIBLE" (Future),
Shipped to Urban formats;
+ Rhythmic/Club formats on 7/27/17;
via A1/Freebandz/Epic [194 Daily US Spins]. – It’s a bad beat selection. He has a hard time locating the pocket of the rhythm and staying in it. Not sure how this works into urban formats or clubs either. This may get a few spins but I'd be shocked if it’s in heavy rotation. Strong Dump

"RUN ME DRY" (Bryson Tiller),
Shipping to Urban formats;
+ Pop formats on 7/26/17;
via Trapsoul/RCA [152 Daily US Spins]. – The delivery kills this song. This could have been a little better if he would have chosen to rap or sing. The lyrics are way too simple and the beat too simple for the delivery to be off, it stands out like a sore thumb. It may get a few spins, but I can’t see heavy rotation. May get a few early night or sound check spins as the DJ is getting warmed up in the club. Strong Dump

"WATCHA GON' DO" (Puff Daddy f/ Biggie & Rick Ross),
Shipped to Urban formats on 7/29/17;
via Bad Boy/Epic [144 Daily US Spins]. The beginning of the song sets too high of an expectation for it to mellow off into an overused hip hop sample that’s nowhere near as epic. It was all kind of down hill from there. The beat is way overproduced and too busy. Puffs flow is meh, the beat doesn’t compliment Ross’s style. It all sounds forced. Weak Dump

"TOO LATE" (After 7),
Currently #39 on Adult Contemp. formats;
via Afer 7 Music/eOne Dist. [97 Daily US Spins]. – It’s not a hit. But it should get some late night love spins, maybe even a few smooth jazz spins. Should work well with adult audiences in between more popular and expected songs. It's good filler, but I don’t see a path forward for it with crossover or major success. Weak Bump

"DON'T TAKE IT PERSONAL" (Lyrica Anderson),
Shipped to Adult Contemp. formats on 7/26/17;
via Mosley'MG/Epic [91 Daily US Spins]. – It's not horrible, just not very good. It's uninteresting and not very original. Could possibly get a few spins, possibly even during prime-time in between the songs in heavy rotation. But I see it getting its most play after prime time when the day is dying down. Before the late night love and adult contemporary grooves play. Weak Dump
