Bump It Or Dump It, vol. 60

Strong Bump – A hit. I really like it. Rewind worthy. Unquestionable Smash Hit. Extremely rewind-worthy and one of the better records out currently. Next to no flaws to pick out, something that you'll be supporting/playing daily. Something you predict will be a Top-15 Hit or higher.

Weak Bump – It’s listenable. Something you have to be in the mood to listen to. Not Bad. A Good Moderate Hit. Quality & above average; has more positives than negatives. Might need to grow on you/others, but could catch on. Not a clear smash hit, but something you'd genuinely want people to check out, so you’ll be supporting/playing it occasionally. Something you predict will be a Top-50 hit.

Weak Dump – Don’t really like it. Might like parts of it but not the whole composition. Could grow on you. Underwhelming. Sup-Par Record. Not bad, but definitely missing the mark somewhere. More negatives than positives. Listenable, as you might like some parts but not the whole composition. You don’t hate it and could understand it’s buzz, but you know you won’t be supporting/playing it much. Something you predict that won’t be on airwaves very long or have much replay value.

Strong Dump – Get rid of it. Absolutely don’t like it. Garbage. Hate It.
Complete Trash. A record you absolutely hate and has next to no positives at all. Garbage, and a waste of your time; that you’d want to warn people away from. Something that you’re sure you’ll never be supporting/playing ever; and predict that it’ll fail commercially.

Big Album Alert :
Let me make a quick announcement, go get or stream that new Rapsody album Laila’s Wisdom. One of the best albums I’ve heard in years. And I’m so glad it was done by a female emcee, shout out to the ladies that do this hip-hop thing for real. She put on and put all ten toes down on this joint. We can never replace Nate Dogg but Anderson Paak is a damn good substitute for hooks. It’s something for everybody on this joint, and ninth wonder, my man my Melo, bruh! Before Lauryn Hill, not since Bahamadia has it been laid like this. It’s a full album listen, full of lyrical and song writing skills, with no gimmicks. It’s soulful, deep, true and transparent.

Big KRIT released his first independent album since leaving Def Jam, a brilliant double album 4Eva Is a Mighty Long Time. I’m not sure it’s a classic but it feels like a masterpiece. I don’t believe it will have any significant radio singles or hits but man is it a great listen from beginning to end, it’s a musical journey. Its something for people that listen to whole songs not just hooks, and whole albums not just singles. It’s mature hip-hop.  If it becomes classic, it’ll have to be a test of time classic; it’s not an instant classic. We’ll have to see if and what it changes in hip-hop; currently, the hip-hop audience and the program directors of radio and video outlets are comfortable and apathetic about the state of hip-hop, they aren’t looking to move forward or for change.

Now for his weeks singles.
Simple rules:
As we do every week, I'll give you the Top-9 new singles officially sent to Urban-format radio stations, that are either beginning to chart right now or expected to chart soon. In exchange, you can have & listen to them, and personally comment below, stating if you would *Bump It* or *Dump It* for each record and why... [Strong Bump, Weak Bump, Weak Dump, or Strong Dump]

"MOTORSPORT" (Migos f/ Nicki Minaj & Cardi B),
Debuting #35 on Urban formats;
Shipped to Rhythmic/Club formats 10/27/17;
via Quality Control/300/Motown.
[beginning w/ 891 + 421 Daily US Spins] -  I expect it to blow up and do major numbers just because of the buzz it’s already creating. Personal opinion it’s ok, but would have been better if it was just Nikki and Cardi. Other than background adlibs that are sort of entertaining, it’s a bunch of random unfocused low skilled bars. Its nothing I’d personally listen to but I can understand – Weak Bump

"WOLVES" (Selena Gomez & Marshmello),
Debuting #41 on Pop formats;
Shipped to Rhythmic/Club + Urban formats 10/25/17;
via Interscope.
[beginning w/ 825 + 112 Daily US Spins] – I can definitely see the pop and rhythmic appeal, it’s not bad song and kind of catchy, but I don’t see a place for it on urban radio. I can see it in certain clubs, because it’s mixable, especially with EDM. It’s a bit of toe tapper and has a little bit of a head nod factor. This will definitely be used for something on television. – Weak Bump

"BEDROOM FLOOR" (Liam Payne),
Debuting #47 on Pop formats;
Shipped to Rhythmic/Club formats 10/29/17;
via Capitol/Republic.
[beginning w/ 530 + 101 Daily US Spins] – Perfect for Rhythmic Club and pop formats. It’s ok, I expect it to get radio play, but it seems like a song that will actually do better in the club than on the radio. – Weak Dump

"WIFE YOU UP" (Russ),
Debuting #45 on Rhythmic/Club formats;
Shipped to Urban formats 10/26/17;
via Diemon/Columbia.
[beginning w/ 537 Daily US Spins] – I can see this getting a little bit of radio play. It’s a good change of pace song. I wouldn’t expect to hear this during primetime, but early morning and in the evening right before stations get into the quiet storm and r&b segments. It’s calm, cool and adult sounding.  Not bad  - Weak Bump

"HONEST" (MAJOR.),
Shipped to Adult Contemp/R&B formats 10/24/17;
via B.O.E. Music Group.
[beginning w/ 327 Daily US Spins] – I can definitely see this getting some R&B spins, it's closer to traditional R&B and should play well with older audiences. I wouldn’t expect major spins, the top of the order at an R&B station, early mornings, and maybe late evening before the quiet storm sets. – Weak Bump

"AT THE CLUB" (Jacquees f/ Dej Loaf),
Shipped to Urban + Rhythmic/Club formats 10/25/17;
via Cash Money/Interscope.
[beginning w/ 295 Daily US Spins] -  It’s not bad, but it doesn’t sound like a hit. It’s good for the club, but it’s something you play early in the night while people are coming in and you still testing the equipment. It should get some radio play, I wouldn’t expect a whole lot of spins, but the good thing is it could be played at any time of the day, so primetime or during a mix show is not out of the question. – Weak Bump

"COLD SUMMER" (Jeezy f/ Tee Grizzley),
Shipped to Urban + Rhythmic/Club formats 10/26/17;
via CTE/Def Jam.
[beginning w/ 129 Daily US Spins] – That should be a hit. Keep your eyes on this one. It’s street but you can ride with it, it has a heavy bass line perfect for car systems. It should play in in the club or the strip club. It’s a hook catchy enough that people will want to learn it, the beat has a Mafioso feel; I don’t know if it’s a top of the charts hit because of how radio is, but the middle of the road. But I like it – Strong Bump

"MAKE THIS SONG CRY" (K. Michelle),
Debuting #40 on Adult Contemp/R&B formats;
Shipped to Urban formats 10/28/17;
via Atlantic.
[beginning w/ 122 Daily US Spins] – It’s solid. It should do mid-level numbers on mainstream radio, the fact that it’s too adult and not about partying will hold it back. On adult contemporary, it’ll probably also do midlevel numbers, because it’s not traditional enough. But it’s a good song, skillfully crafted and that makes use of talent. – Weak Bump

"THERE SHE GO" (Fetty Wap f/ Monty),
Shipped to Urban + Rhythmic/Club formats 10/17/17;
via 300/Atlantic.
[81 Daily US Spins] – It has a trap delivery, but the production is groovy and it stands out from everything else on the radio. This could be a hit in the making, it's distinctive. It can play well in the club, and it’ll play any time of day. Keep an eye out for this one, it grows on you.    Strong Bump
